Women need the right support. For this to happen employers must get the right information and support too .
“Workplaces are failing menopausal women, change is urgently needed”
Eight in 10 of women who are affected by the menopause or perimenopause say their workplace has no basic support in place for them, says the Fawcett report.
The report also uncovers the stigma many women face, with 41% say their symptoms treated as a joke by people in their workplace.
Almost a third of working women in the core ‘menopause age’ – aged between 50 and 64 – are having to reluctantly take time off work due to menopausal symptoms. Across the year this mounts up to over 24 hours which has a potential productivity loss, across the UK female workforce, of 14 million work days.
Over 370,000 working women in the UK aged between 50 and 64 admitting they have left, or considered leaving their career, because dealing with the menopausal symptoms in the workplace is too difficult. The average cost of replacing an employee is 6-9 months of their salary.
Women aged 50 to 64 are the fastest growing economically active group but employers are yet to align with this change and lack the rescources and policies to support the needs of this demographic. This is where we can help you from losing your most experienced and knowledgeable staff.
How can we help you retain these experienced staff members with their valuable skills and talents, reduce absence, limit staff turnover and promote workplace inclusivity?
Expert clinical support
That is where we come in as menopause specialists. We will help employees and employers to develop their understanding of the perimenopause and menopause and its potential impact in the workplace. We can support you in fostering a menopause friendly environment and consider how workplace adjustments could benefit your team. We can offer support in creating or updating your menopause policy and allow you to feel confident and prepared in applying best practice when supporting women experiencing the perimenopause.
Assisting in the recognition of perimenopausal symptoms
There are many different symptoms that come in a wide range of combinations making if difficult for women and those who are around them to spot the signs. Menopause affects every one of us. Even if we will not go through the menopause ourselves, we will have a friend, partner or family member who will. We aim to provide understanding about the menopause, how it can be managed and how we can look after ourselves and others during this time.
